The Music and Science programme is a bilingual programme (Finnish/English).
The Master of Arts in Music and Science is a 120 ECTS credit programme requiring 2 years of full-time study. The programme blends comprehensive research with opportunities for practical experience in the professional world.
The programme is led by a world-class team of music cognition, psychology, and therapy researchers, equips you with strong research skills and proficiency in cutting-edge technologies available at our state-of-the-art facilities. The programme is part of a large, international, and multidisciplinary unit. It’s closely affiliated with the Centre of Excellence in Music, Mind, Body, and Brain.
Courses encompass a wide range of Music and Science topics, exploring theoretical frameworks, contemporary research methods, and practical applications. You’ll delve into music research focusing on emotions, embodiment, creativity, and music therapy, gaining insight into cognitive, psychological and societal aspects of music’s role in contemporary life, while mastering qualitative and quantitative research methods. Graduates of Music and Science are well-prepared for exciting careers in the broader music, arts, and culture sector, and the programme also paves the way for further doctoral studies.
The international call for applications is once a year in January. The Finnish call for applications is included in the second round of joint application to higher education.
